Ecosystem AssessmentEnvironmental protection ought to be to everybody's interest since mankind, too, is part of nature and dependent on its resources. The integrity of ecosystems is in a complex way - directly or indirectly - associated with human biological and sociobiological aspects as health, well-being, population density, migration pressure, the bioavailability of food, etc., taking, on their part, effect on economical and political developments. For instance, climate changes may trigger stress on agricultural production or the integrity of coral reefs and coastal fisheries potentially leading to malnutrition, stunted childhood growth and diminished intellectual abilities, susceptibility to infectious diseases and other ailments. Deforestation may alter infectious disease patterns, for example by affecting vector (e.g. mosquito) distributions over time. ![]() ![]() ![]() For further reading visit: Millennium Ecosystem assessment Ecosystems and Human well-beeing |
